Raghunath’s Dreamy Rendezvous: A Romantic France Tour with Thrillophilia

Bonjour!
I’m Raghunath, and my wife and I just returned from a romantic journey across France that left us spellbound.
At this stage of life, we’ve decided to explore as much of the world as we can, and France had always been at the top of our list. From the glitz of Monaco to the timeless charm of Paris, every moment of this trip was an experience to cherish.
To give you a clearer picture, I’ll rate the highlights of our adventure, sharing why each one stood out (or didn’t!) and how they made our trip unforgettable.
Nice: The Gateway to the French Riviera
Rating: 8.5/10
Our trip began in Nice, and let me tell you, the city was as vibrant as its name suggests! The Promenade des Anglais was a perfect introduction to the French Riviera. We strolled hand-in-hand along the azure coastline, stopping occasionally to admire street performers and sip on refreshing limonade.

The markets in Nice were a sensory overload – the smell of freshly baked baguettes, the vibrant colours of flowers, and the cheerful banter of locals. One downside, if you ask me, was that it was a bit crowded, which made finding a quiet spot tricky. But the energy of the place surely made up for it.
Monaco: Glitz and Glamour
Rating: 9/10
A short drive from Nice brought us to Monaco, and wow, it was like stepping into a postcard! The Monte Carlo Casino was dazzling, and even though we didn’t gamble much, just standing there made us feel richer!
The highlight was the Prince’s Palace. We arrived just in time to witness the changing of the guard ceremony – a moment steeped in tradition and elegance. Monaco’s charm lies in its opulence, but what we loved most was the breathtaking coastal views and the serene strolls along the harbor.

French Riviera: Medieval Villages and Coastal Bliss
Rating: 10/10
Traveling along the French Riviera was like being in a dream- with each village seemed to have its own personality. Eze, perched on a hilltop, had narrow cobbled streets that felt like stepping back in time. We visited a perfumery here and even picked up a bottle of lavender-scented perfume as a keepsake.
Saint-Paul-de-Vence, another gem, was an artist’s haven. The galleries and quaint cafes were delightful, but what made this experience unforgettable was the warmth of the locals. One elderly shopkeeper shared stories of the village’s history, leaving us captivated.

Arles: A Brush with Van Gogh’s Legacy
Rating: 9.5/10
Arles was a surprise highlight for us. As art lovers, visiting the place where Van Gogh painted “Starry Night” felt surreal. The town had a rustic charm, with Roman ruins blending seamlessly with modern life.
We walked through the streets, imagining Van Gogh’s perspective as he captured the beauty around him. The café where he painted “Café Terrace at Night” was a must-visit. The only reason this isn’t a full 10 is that we wished we had more time to explore.

Paris: The City of Love
Rating: 11/10 (Yes, it deserves the extra point!)
Paris was the grand finale of our trip, and it exceeded every expectation. The Eiffel Tower at night was a sight to behold. Standing beneath its twinkling lights, we felt a renewed sense of romance. My wife joked that it was like reliving our honeymoon!

We visited the Louvre, and while the Mona Lisa was smaller than we expected, the sheer scale of the museum left us awestruck. The Seine River Cruise was another magical experience – gliding past iconic landmarks while enjoying the city’s reflections on the water.

The pièce de résistance was the Moulin Rouge show. The vibrant performances, stunning costumes, and electric atmosphere made it a night to remember.
Food: A Gastronomic Delight
Rating: 9/10
French cuisine lived up to its reputation. From flaky croissants at charming patisseries to decadent crème brûlée, every meal was a celebration. My wife couldn’t stop raving about the ratatouille she tried in a small bistro in Paris.
One slight hiccup was navigating the menus in smaller towns where English translations weren’t available. But the servers were patient and helped us choose dishes, making the experience all the more endearing.

Hospitality: Warm and Welcoming
Rating: 9.5/10
The French have a reputation for being reserved, but our experience was the opposite. From the hotel staff who upgraded our room in Nice to the guide in Arles who shared fascinating stories, we felt genuinely welcomed everywhere.
The locals’ willingness to help, even with our limited French, was heartwarming. It’s true what they say – kindness speaks a universal language.

Overall Experience: A Journey to Treasure
Rating: 10/10
This trip wasn’t just a vacation, it was a celebration of love, art, and culture. Every moment, from the glittering streets of Monaco to the romantic alleys of Paris, felt like a scene from a storybook.
For anyone considering a trip to France, my advice is simple – go for it. Whether you’re a history buff, an art lover, or simply someone looking for a romantic getaway, France has something magical in store for you.
