Chasing Blue Horizons: Parvej and Varun’s Phi Phi Island Escape from Phuket

It all started on a breezy night in Phuket. My best friend Varun and I had just wrapped up dinner by the beach, watching the waves shimmer under the moonlight. As we leaned back on our chairs, Varun looked out at the sea and said, “Tomorrow’s the big day—Phi Phi Islands.”

I smiled. “Can’t believe we’re finally doing it.”

Ever since we started planning this trip, Phi Phi Island has been at the top of our list. We’d heard so much about the white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and dramatic cliffs—and now, it is real.

Setting Off in Style

Our day began early with a smooth pickup from our hotel. A comfortable van took us straight to the pier, where other excited travelers were already gathering. After a short safety briefing and a quick coffee, we hopped onto the speedboat.

As the boat zipped across the Andaman Sea, cool wind hit our faces and the morning sun glittered on the water. I looked at Varun, both of us smiling like kids. This was already turning out to be better than expected.

Walking Into a Movie Scene – Maya Bay

Our first stop was Maya Bay. As we stepped onto the soft white sand, it felt like walking straight into a postcard.

Towering cliffs wrapped around the bay, and the water was clearer than anything I’d ever seen. We strolled along the shore, clicking photos, dipping our feet, and just marveling at the beauty. Even though we couldn’t swim here due to preservation rules, the view alone was worth the trip.

Underwater Wonders at Loh Samah Bay

Next came snorkeling at Loh Samah Bay, just around the corner from Maya Bay. I’d snorkeled before, but nothing like this. The water was calm and unbelievably clear.

I put on my gear and jumped into the water. I saw bright coral and colorful fish swimming all around me. I looked up and saw Varun floating nearby, giving me a thumbs-up. We spent about 30 minutes exploring underwater, and when we finally climbed back onto the boat, we were both speechless.

A Glimpse of Nature and Culture

We passed by Viking Cave, where we learned how locals preserve bird’s nests to make soup—a tradition that goes back generations. It wasn’t open to visitors, but the story behind it really amazed me.

Soon after, we arrived at Monkey Beach, where we spotted monkeys relaxing on the rocks and trees. We didn’t get too close, but just watching them interact with the surroundings was fun.

Lunch with an Island View – Phi Phi Don

Around noon, we reached Phi Phi Don. A beachfront Thai restaurant welcomed us with a buffet lunch—fried rice, curries, fresh seafood, and tropical fruits. After eating, we relaxed on the beach, letting our food settle and soaking in the peaceful view.

Varun and I took a short walk through the village, picking up souvenirs and chatting with fellow travelers. It felt like time slowed down for a while.

Last Stop, Best Stop – Khai Island

Our final stop was Khai Island, a quieter, more relaxed place. White sand, shallow waters, and fewer people made it the perfect end to our island-hopping adventure.

We grabbed cold drinks and lounged under an umbrella, dipping our feet in the warm water and just enjoying the silence between us.

“This,” I told Varun, “is what peace looks like.”

Return to Phuket – With Memories That Will Last Forever

By late afternoon, we were cruising back towards Phuket. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden glow over the horizon. No one on the boat talked much—maybe they were all tired, or maybe, like me, they were replaying every moment in their heads.

That night, back at the hotel, we went through our photos. Maya Bay. Snorkeling. Monkeys. Beach lunch. Blue skies. “I don’t think I’ve ever had a better day,” Varun said.

I agreed.
