Oshin's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara Like Experience in Ladakh with Thrillophilia

Ladakh was a part of my travel bucket list for a very long time, a place with breathtaking landscapes, diverse cultures, and unsaid stories. I have been fantasizing about walking by the banksides of Pangong Lake, visiting monasteries, and to be surrounded by the silence that speaks directly to your heart. And with Thrillophilia, my wish came true in the most captivating way possible, along with my dearest travel friends, Yamini and Nandini.
Their presence made sure it was not only a holiday, but a memorable experience that seemed to be straight out of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara kind of a movie, packed with thrill, adventure, insanity, and beauty at its peak.

The Adventure Begins
Our adventure began with a power-packed breakfast, which energised us as we set off for a long day to Turtuk. It was like one of the key highlights of our trip, as if we were entering a whole new world. Turtuk has a diverse combination of Balti culture, having linguistic, cultural, and traditional differences from the rest of Ladakh. Walking through its stone-paved streets, in front of vintage wooden houses and radiating locals, was like walking through history.
With every minute of moving forward, the visuals changed, unfolding a greener and more soothing perspective that only a few tourists get to see. Rising mountains added to the beauty of the lavishing green pastures and freshly yielded apples and apricots. Such valleys and fringing villages made the view even more picturesque.
Our overnight stay in Nubra Valley, and camping under the stars, showered by the lively waves of breeze, was breathtaking. This was a perfect start to what turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Discovering Hidden Gems
And I feel like a trip to Ladakh could never be complete without visiting the Pangong Lake. We reached there right before the sunrise, where the changing of the water’s colors from turquoise to deep blue was pure beauty. Waking ourselves up the next day to these soothing sounds of water lapping over gently at the lakeside shores was an experience that cannot be described in words.
Sitting on the lake, drinking hot tea, we were lost in the expansiveness around us. It was not just the visual splendor that held us, but the stillness and power of nature reminding us how small we are, yet how connected we can be.
On our trip, we also met some local residents who welcomed us with open arms and genuine warmth, making us feel instantly at home. Their thoughtful suggestions and insights on what to eat in Ladakh added an authentic flavour to our experience. This part of the journey opened my eyes to the richness of travel beyond the lens of being a tourist.

Honoring Heroes at Rezang La and Exploring Hanle
The most emotional part of our journey was our visit to the Rezang La War Memorial in Chushul Village. We were filled with patriotism and deep gratitude to see the land where the Indian troops laid down their lives for the country in the 1962 Indo-China war. The silence of the memorial spoke more than words could ever.
Shortly thereafter, we drove onward to Hanle, a distant destination few adventurers ever see. But the biggest surprise lay in store for us was at the Indian Astronomical Observatory, one of the highest locations for astronomical studies. Witnessing the Himalayan Chandra Telescope and hearing about the universe from one of the darkest and best skies on Earth was awe-inspiring. It was the ideal mix of science, nature, and awe, and made our journey all the more significant.

Chumathang Valley – Nature's Hidden Spa
We returned through Chumathang Valley, a not-so-well-known but gorgeous place. The green meadows, the mighty Indus River shining in sunlight, and the stunning mountain landscapes made for an otherworldly scene.
But what made this part so unforgettable were the natural hot springs. Sitting in those warm, mineral-rich waters while surrounded by crisp mountain air was incredibly therapeutic. It soothed not only our tired muscles but also our minds. It was a rare moment of harmony between body and soul, something I’ll carry with me forever.

The Magic still Lingers
We returned to Leh, where we checked into our hotel and were able to finally sit down and rest. Over butter tea and laughs, we talked about the best moments and were amazed at how much we had experienced and sensed in the space of a few days.
Even as we wandered further in Leh's gentle atmosphere, Chumathang's soul soothing breezes still seemed embedded in our souls. Himalayan marmots, yaks, and endemic birds were what we were not expecting at all but happily cherished. One of the most exceptional experiences was encountering the Changpa nomads, who inhabit some of the world's toughest climates with dignity and resilience. Their way of life firmly based on sustainability, community, and respect for nature taught us invaluable lessons.
