Kinsuk’s Thailand Journey Carved in Waves and Winds with Thrillophilia

People say that the best way to truly know someone is to travel with them. I thought I knew my wife inside out. But as we set off for Thailand on 23rd October 2023, I realised travel has its way of revealing sides of people - and of ourselves - that we never knew existed.

Curated by Thrillophilia, our trip promised a tornado of contrasts: serene beaches and bustling cities, modern luxury and ancient tradition, adrenaline-packed adventures and tranquil escapes. It was a journey that offered a deeper connection to the world and to each other.

The Sea Sings Stories in Krabi

With full excitement for the trip, we landed in Krabi, and I must say, it was beyond our expectations. We were taken to the Maneetel Beachfront Resort, where the balcony offered an unbroken view of the Andaman Sea, with its waters shining under the sun like a treasure chest split open. The breeze carried the scent of salt and freedom, and for the first time in months, my shoulders felt lighter.

What captured our attention was the 7 Island Sunset Tour. To experience it, we boarded the longtail boat that afternoon and set sail toward a cluster of islands scattered like emeralds across a sapphire sea. We stopped at Koh Yawasam, where snorkelling revealed a vibrant underwater world I could hardly believe was real. Schools of fish moved around coral reefs, and their colours were vivid against the blue depths.

“It looks like swimming in a kaleidoscope,” my wife said, emerging from the water with a smile.

Later, at Koh Poda, we strolled barefoot along the powdery sand when the sky began to blush with the hues of sunset. Dinner was served on the boat, which included grilled seafood and fresh fruit, but the backdrop of the sinking sun cast golden ribbons across the sea. By the time we returned to shore, the night sky was alive with stars, and I felt a quiet gratitude for the day we had lived.

The Pulse of the Andaman - Phuket

Phuket greeted us with its lively streets and stunning coastline. Our stay at Amari Phuket Beach Resort was the perfect blend of luxury and tranquillity. The balcony offered views of the sea stretching endlessly where the horizon blurred the line between water and sky. It felt like the world had expanded, and we were at its edge.

We also took a full-day Phi Phi Island tour. As the speedboat cut through the waves, the salty spray and wind against my face brought a rush of excitement. Maya Bay was our first destination, and stepping onto its pristine shores felt magical. The tall limestone cliffs supporting the bay created a cocoon of tranquillity.

At Pileh Lagoon, the water was so clear that the reflection of the surrounding cliffs seemed like a painting. We jumped off the boat into the warm embrace of the lagoon, floating on our backs and staring up at the blue area above.

“I do not think I have ever felt this weightless,” I said to my wife, who was paddling beside me. She nodded with her face radiant with the joy of the moment.

The rest of the day was a blur of stunning beaches and vibrant marine life, but what stayed with me the most was the sense of being completely present. No thoughts of work or routine, just the gentle rhythm of the waves and the wonder of discovery.

Chaos with a Soul

Bangkok hit us with a sensory overload the moment we arrived. Yet, it was oddly satisfying - the chaotic streets, the aroma of street food flowing through the air, and the glittering temples standing proudly amidst skyscrapers.

One of the most memorable moments was the Chao Phraya River Dinner Cruise. Gliding past landmarks like the Grand Palace and Wat Arun surrounded by golden light, we dined on delicious Thai delicacies.

We also went on a safari in the Safari World Bangkok - literally. The place allowed us to get closer to wildlife than we had imagined. We watched a variety of animals in their natural habitats, from lions basking under the sun to elephants wandering freely. At the Marine Park section, even the dolphins leapt with grace and drew cheers from the crowd.

“Who knew Bangkok had this side?” I said as we left, fascinated at the city’s ability to surprise.

A Quiet Goodbye

On our final evening in Thailand, my wife and I sat on the soft sands of Patong Beach. The sun had just dipped below the horizon, leaving behind a sky streaked with lavender and gold. The tide washed in gently and the sound formed a soothing backdrop to our quiet reflection.

“This trip…” she began, trailing off as she ran her fingers through the sand.

“…felt different,” I finished for her.

It was not just the beauty of the places we had visited, though Thailand had that in abundance. It was the way those moments had unfolded - unhurried and pure, like the natural rhythm of the ocean itself. The serenity of Krabi, the pulse of Phuket, and the shared wonder of each experience had become a part of us.

As we rose to leave, I glanced back at the shoreline. Our footprints were still there, side by side, but the tide was already inching closer, ready to claim them. In that fleeting moment, I realised that leaving a mark is not necessary, but the mark that a journey leaves on you.

Walking back toward the resort, hand in hand, the distant sound of the waves faded behind us.
