Chandrika’s Love-Filled Getaway to Shimla with Thrillophilia

Hello, fellow wanderlust souls!
I’m Chandrika, and I’m thrilled to share the story of my unforgettable trip to Shimla and Manali. Let me just start by saying that this wasn’t just any trip, it was an emotional rollercoaster filled with serene moments, heart-pounding adventure, cultural surprises, and, of course, romance.
We all know, it’s rare to find a journey that ticks all the boxes, but this one did! Thanks to Thrillophilia, our dream getaway turned into a reality, and it exceeded every expectation. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and let me take you on a virtual tour of this magical experience.
Peaceful Moments in the Hills
If you’re someone who craves peace, let me tell you, Shimla is a paradise. The tranquility of this hill station is unmatched. One of the most serene moments for us was sitting on a bench at The Ridge. The panoramic view of snow-clad mountains, the faint sound of church bells from Christ Church, and the crisp mountain air created a perfect setting for quiet introspection.

Another memorable experience was our visit to Manikaran Sahib. The spiritual energy of the place is indescribable. The soothing sound of the Parvati River flowing beside the gurudwara and the warmth of the natural hot springs felt like a divine embrace. My partner and I sat there in silence, soaking in the calmness, feeling a connection not just with the place but with each other.
Kufri also surprised us with its peaceful charm. We took a short hike to Mahasu Peak, surrounded by dense deodar forests. The only sound accompanying us was the rustling of leaves and the occasional chirping of birds. If you’re looking to escape the chaos of life, this is the place to be.
Love is in the Air
What’s a trip to Shimla without romance, right? Walking hand-in-hand on Mall Road under a blanket of twinkling fairy lights was like stepping into a romantic movie. We indulged in warm cups of hot chocolate from a little, lovely café while simply watching the world go by.

One evening, we decided to visit Jakhoo Temple in Shimla during the sunset. The climb was worth it, not just for the breathtaking view but for the magical moment we shared. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink, my partner surprised me with a heartfelt note he had written. The note was simple yet sweet, creating a moment straight out of a fairytale. (Ps: I still have the note and it has kind of become a souvenir of my Shimla trip!)
Our stay in a charming wooden cottage in Shimla added to the romance. Imagine waking up to the sight of misty mountains, sipping tea on a balcony with your favourite person, and feeling like the world has paused just for you.
Adrenaline Above the Valleys
If you are an adventure seeker, this section is for you! The winding roads leading to Shimla and Manali were an adventure in themselves. With every sharp turn, our hearts raced, but the stunning views kept us hooked.

The highlight of our trip was our day at Solang Valley. It was my first time skiing, and while I wasn’t exactly graceful, the experience was exhilarating. My partner tried snowboarding, and though he fell a few times, his determination was inspiring. We also tried zorbing, which had us rolling down the snow-covered slopes in fits of laughter. Also, if skiing or snowboarding isn’t your style, zorbing is the perfect alternative— safe, thrilling, and loads of fun!
But the real adrenaline rush came during our river rafting experience in Kasol. Battling the rapids of the Parvati River was both nerve-wracking and thrilling. The icy splashes of water, the roar of the river, and the teamwork it required made it an adventure we’ll never forget.

(Pro tip: Leave items like jewelry and bags behind— I learned the hard way when my favourite bracelet disappeared in the water!)
Cultural Explosion
Shimla and its surroundings are a melting pot of cultures, and we made sure to immerse ourselves in it. Shopping on Mall Road was an absolute delight. From hand-knitted woolens to intricately designed Himachali caps, we couldn’t resist picking up souvenirs.
The food was another highlight. We devoured piping hot siddu, a local bread, and fell in love with chana madra, a delicious Himachali curry. At a small café in Kasol, we tried Israeli food like shakshuka and hummus, which was a pleasant surprise.

Meeting the locals was heartwarming. In Manali, we chatted with a family who invited us to their home for tea. Their hospitality and stories about life in the hills gave us a deeper appreciation for the region’s culture.
So, What Do You Think?
Doesn’t this sound like the perfect mix of peace, adventure, romance, and culture? Shimla truly has something for everyone, and this trip will always hold a special place in my heart.
